Overcoming Fear
Your heart pounds so fast, your eyes swell up and they tear
Universal feeling everybody knows as fear
Our instinct is too strong the one we have that’s to survive
So fear is entrenched in every part of our lives
Since we’re born everyone helps paint a bloody picture
Where chucky, freddy or Jason will come out to get ya
Where spirits will haunt and return from the dead
Or giant boogeyman hiding under your bed
I ain’t never scared, I’m not the type to squeal
Fear is for the weak that is how I really feel
When you live life on the streets your heart becomes like steel
But I’m not gonna front some of the fear is real
It’s enough to keep you up where you lie awake
Friends playing with guns taking lives by mistake
Or cops beating and tazing you if you dare to even try
Or 50 shots with some reloads if you defend your pride
Your home can be taken from you, no real sense of foundation
Your child’s economic success depends on their school’s geographic location
Don’t want to be victims of life, we only want to witness
Be a good Christian bow your head mind your business
Or stick your nose in everyobody’s affair
hope they fear as you do or force it with prayer
I know I’m not a priest, I’m not exactly on that level
But I think the only one that operates from a point of fear is the devil
Scared of God don’t want to be over-run
So it uses you as a scape goat to try to overcome
When we’re trembling and shaking trying to escape our demise
Our father sent his son without a speck a fear in his eyes
Enlightened his people, he let em know what they’re worth
Nobody’s scared in heaven so nobody should be scared on earth
Don’t let the temptations pull you away in different parts
If you’re a follower of Christ you got nothing but courage in your heart
Protect the will of God and feel so connectd
I would even challenge the pope, anybody can get it
Everybody saved to me that’s the ideal
God’s work is justice and it’s not just in our heads, it’s real
If we were all followers of Christ, we’d use our courage as a tool
And force banks to give billion dollar bonuses to our schools
Everyone would have food, and in the winter everybody would have a coat
And we’d be coming here on visas not on banana boats
We’d take over Arizona, dispel immigrant fables
We’d be overturning laws like Jesus overturned them tables
All I’m saying is when you arrive during my eulogy
They’d say that Jesus taught me to be couragous…what’d he teach you to be

It’s hard to believe that they’ll ever be salvation
Cause we methodically are feeling frustration
I could take us back to a time way before
The Sad times, The dark ages in the Vietnam war
We all met and we marched all to the same beat
We were mobilized and mad and took over the streets
Our friends were wounded whenever they tried to suppress
We fought hard but thousands of us still died nonetheless
The million man march brought too many people to withdraw
Everyone got involved; they signed our bill into law
But my colored family disproportionally
Die in wars and got locked up indefinitely
Racism incognito runs perpetually
Cause I still can’t stop a yellow cab whenever I need
The first Bush was no good he was the worst slime
And we got the second Bush twice that was the worst crime
There were more anti-war protest than I can count, we showed how much we grown
But we still couldn’t bring our good troops back home
Change isn’t possible, it’s merely a glitch
How can our communities grow when money only goes to the rich
How is freedom, freedom when it’s distributed unequally
How can we trust cops when they beat us so lethally
Understand why change isn’t the sequel see
I know its Easter and everyone has hope in their head
Even CEOs praying for their markets to rise from the dead
And they are getting billions and billions more to revive
While the Bronx gets nothing and remains too poor to survive
And we still don’t change, and there’s no one to run from
Cause their doing worse oversees where our families come from
While these images plague my mind piece by piece
It shatters my hope and vision of peace into pieces
How did he do it, right after he took his last breath
Show us Jesus how did you rise from your death
We need those pointers right now from your spiritual shelves
Cause I don’t see change unless it’s a miracle within ourselves
I can search and open your tomb and unwind it
But where are your teachings, show us the answer, where can I find it?
